Edible Askew Road

Each Peach Pear Plum the classic Children’s book by author and illustrator Allan Ahlberg was brought to life at Askew Road Library during the very successful recent Edible Askew Road which started on the 18th May and ended on 9th June.

The library had  peach, pear and plum trees which were potted and decorated by both Children and adults the week before the official launch of Edible Askew road (part of the Chelsea fringe festival). This event at the library as well as Edible Askew road itself was organised by local charity Hammersmith Community Garden Association (HGSA).

The library partnered with Greenside Primary school,  a number of class visits to the library took place and the school provided some great artwork from pupils to display in the library. The trees will be presented to the school in the next few weeks to be planted on their grounds.

A number of special Edible Askew road story time sessions and craft events took place during the 3 weeks, along with a talk about allotments during one of our coffee mornings and an Edible Askew road book display. The Library was also a collection and return point for the treasure trail forms, the trail ran for the duration of Edible Askew.
