Askew Road Library celebrated the 70th Anniversary of VE Day on Friday 8 May with a Library Street Party. A good crowd attended for a talk about Askew Road during and after the war, music, singing, a quiz, a prize draw, sandwiches and a fantastic cake baked by Chenelle. Thirteen of our Home Library Service customers attended and said they enjoyed it immensely.
Thanks to Zedh the quizmaster, Jane the organiser, Charlie, Lorena and Philip for transporting and assisting the Home Library Service customers. Thanks too to Amanda and Vernal, Neil and Kate for helping and keeping the rest of the library going during the event and to the ex-members of staff who also came: Elin who sang a couple of songs and Lyn who dressed up in forties costume and helped at the event in a big way.
One lady who is 96 said that she hadn’t been able to leave the house in two months and had thoroughly enjoyed herself so we look forard to organising more activities in our libraries for this age group.
