For the last few weeks in a library not so far away, the forces of light and dark have been clashing. Dark Kings have captured White Queens, novices have taken on Grand Masters, while entire armies of foot soldiers have been heroically sacrificed.
Yes, it’s Hammersmith’s local Chess Club, who have recently livened up our Tuesday evenings here at Hammersmith Library.
Those of us new to the game have been introduced to such wonderfully named moves as the “Sicilian Defence” “Queen’s Gambit” and the “Wrong Bishop” to name a few. These sessions have been very popular, promoting interest in the game and hopefully recruiting some new members to the club.
Who knows, the next Bobby Fischer might just hail from West London.
